CHANGES OF CYTOKINE PROFILE AND TRANSPORTER PROTEIN LEVELS IN PROLIFERATIVE DISORDERS OF UTERINE SYSTEM
This study analyzed cytokine and transporter protein levels in women with endometriosis, ovarian cancer, and cystadenoma, revealing distinct patterns of change that may reflect disease progression.

The study measured serum levels of inflammatory cytokines (TNFα, IL-1β, IL-6, IFNγ) and macroglobulin-related transporter proteins (α2-macroglobulin and pregnancy-associated α2-glycoprotein), including functional macroglobulin forms and their components (macroglobulin–IgG complexes, macroglobulin–plasmin, IgG, and plasmin), comparing women with verified endometriosis, ovarian cancer, and cystadenoma to age-matched healthy controls. The authors report distinct, condition-specific patterns: ovarian cancer showed markedly increased α2-glycoprotein, macroglobulin–plasmin, IL-6 and TNFα with unchanged IgG and IFNγ, cystadenoma showed reduced α2-macroglobulin with unchanged plasmin-related and α2-glycoprotein levels but increased IL-1β and certain complexes, and endometriosis featured significant increases in α2-glycoprotein, IL-6, IL-1β and IgG with relatively high macroglobulin–plasmin and macroglobulin–IgG. They state a key caveat that these observed changes could be either consequences of disease or contributing causes of progression. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it characterizes endometriosis-associated serum cytokine and α2-macroglobulin transporter protein alterations and contrasts them with other proliferative uterine adnexal disorders.
