Abstract
• The present terminology for some forms of endometriosis is incorrect or confusing. • The present terminology gives too little emphasis on the adhesive and fibrotic aspects of advanced endometriotic nodules. • Endometriosis infiltrating the outer myometrium of the anterior or posterior uterine wall should simply be defined as “uterine endometriosis”. • What is called rectovaginal septum endometriosis is the manifestation of endometriosis infiltration and fibrosis affecting a variable portion of the pouch of Douglas.
