Impaired Expression of Estrogen and Progesteron Receptors During the Implantation Window in Eutopic Endometrium of Infertile Women Associated with Endometriosis Genitalis Externa
Infertile women with endometriosis displayed altered expression of estrogen and progesterone receptor isoforms in their eutopic endometrium during the implantation window compared to fertile women.

This open prospective comparative study examined expression of estrogen receptor (ERα/ERβ) and progesterone receptor (PR-A/PR-B) isoforms in eutopic endometrium during the implantation window using morphological and immunohistochemical analysis of pipelle biopsy samples. It included 32 infertility patients with endometriosis-associated infertility and failed implantation attempts within ART, compared with 33 fertile women with endometriosis genitalis externa (rAFS I–IV). The authors found significantly higher ERα (19-fold) and ERβ (2.3-fold) in stroma and higher PR-B in glands (1.7-fold) in the infertility group, alongside lower PR-A in stroma (2.5-fold), and concluded these receptor isoform abnormalities underlie impaired endometrial receptivity reflected by absence of pregnancy. The paper is centrally about endometriosis — it focuses on altered ER/PR isoform expression in eutopic endometrium during the implantation window in women with endometriosis-associated infertility.
