This retrospective study analyzed questionnaires from 170 women who attended gynecology visits for complaints suggestive of endometriosis and subsequently underwent diagnostic laparoscopy/laparotomy at Tartu University Clinic during 2005–2008; 118 (69.4%) had endometriosis and 52 (30.6%) had no disease found. Compared with controls, endometriosis patients reported somewhat more frequent whole-menstrual-period lower abdominal pain and menstrual-associated pain or bleeding during defecation, while no major differences were found in overall and reproductive histories; a stated caveat is that severity and prediction could not be reliably inferred from collected anamnesis because diagnosis is confirmed only by laparoscopic and histological findings. Smoking was more common and sexually transmitted diseases were more frequent in the control group, and infertility/spontaneous abortion patterns differed by endometriosis severity, with infertility more often reported in mild-minimal forms.
