Abdominal wall endometrioma: Our experience in Vladimir, Russia
This retrospective study of 23 patients treated for abdominal wall endometrioma found that 87% were symptomatic, recurrence occurred in 17.4% and was associated with postoperative pain and seroma.

This retrospective multi-department case series examined 23 women in Vladimir, Russia with histologically confirmed abdominal wall endometrioma (AWE) treated between 2010 and 2014, collecting demographics, prior operations (most commonly cesarean section), clinical symptoms, excised lesion size, postoperative course, imaging findings (ultrasound), and recurrence. Most patients had symptomatic disease with cyclic pain and tumor (Esquivel triad and a modified version including gynecologic procedures), and all underwent surgical excision via Pfannenstiel incision, with no major postoperative complications reported. Recurrence occurred in 4 patients (17.4%), all within 3 months, and was associated with postoperative pain lasting longer than 7 days and seroma on ultrasound, which the authors suggest reflected nonadequate excision extent—a key limitation because the study design cannot directly prove causality. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it specifically focuses on abdominal wall endometrioma, a scar-associated manifestation of endometriosis, including clinical presentation, surgical management, and recurrence patterns.
