Abstract

Abstract Nine patients with pelvic endometriosis were treated with gestrinone in a dose of 2.5 mg twice weekl‐ for 6 to 7 months. All patients became anovulator‐ with sporadic episodes of painless uterine bleeding lasting various periods of time, until the‐ became amenorrheic. Considerable lessening of the objective findings such as nodular lesions in the posterior cul‐de‐sac, adnexal mass, uterine mobilit‐ and pelvic tenderness were found. Major side effects recorded were acne in 2 patients, transient increased discharge in 3 patients, and hoarseness in 1 patient. Abnormal increase of serum transaminases was observed in 3 patients, who did not discontinue tne therap‐. Follow‐up of 8 patients until 12 weeks after discontinuation of therap‐ showed that ovulation, determined b‐ basal bod‐ temperature, returned within 7 to 50 (22.8 + 4.9[SE]) da‐s and that objective findings were not remarkabl‐ changed, but subjective findings such as pelvic pain in menses reappeared in 5 of 8 patients.
