This case-control study compared vaginal microbiota profiles between 20 patients with endometriosis and 20 without endometriosis at a hospital in Indonesia, with endometriosis diagnosis confirmed by ultrasonography and histology and microbiota characterized using Illumina MiSeq next-generation sequencing. At the phylum and genus levels, certain taxa differed in dominance patterns, including Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Bacteroidetes at the phylum level, and Lactobacillus, Desulfovibrio, Flavobacterium, and Gardnerella versus Lactobacillus, Prevotella, Desulfovibrio, and Bifidobacterium at the genus level. However, the study found no difference in microbiota abundance between groups (p>0.05).
