The Role of Matrix Metalloproteinase2 (MMP2) in Serum and Peritoneal Fluid of Endometriotic Patients
Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) levels in serum and peritoneal fluid were significantly higher in endometriosis patients and correlated with disease stage.

This cross-sectional study investigated the role of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) in serum and peritoneal fluid from endometriotic patients versus controls, enrolling 50 participants in hospitals in Makassar from May 2015 to May 2016 and measuring MMP-2 using ELISA. The researchers reported that MMP-2 levels in both serum and peritoneal fluid were higher in the endometriosis group, with a significant difference between serum and peritoneal fluid levels and a significant association between MMP-2 values and endometriosis. The paper also states that higher MMP-2 levels corresponded to higher endometriosis stage. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it focuses on whether MMP-2 concentrations in serum and peritoneal fluid distinguish endometriotic patients and relate to disease stage.
