The paper reports a case of polypoid endometriosis involving the ureter, presenting as bilateral polypoid intraluminal ureteral masses in the lower ureter that mimicked ureteral fibroepithelial polyps. The authors describe imaging evaluation with magnetic resonance imaging, which showed high T2 signal intensity, and they note that the masses’ location and bilaterality supported differential diagnosis against fibroepithelial polyps. A key caveat is that this is a single-case report, limiting generalizability beyond the described presentation. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it documents polypoid endometriosis of the ureter mimicking fibroepithelial polyps, with a background of pelvic endometriosis.

Abstract

We present a case of polypoid endometriosis of the ureter that showed bilateral polypoid intraluminal masses in the lower part of the ureter mimicking ureteral fibroepithelial polyps, arising with a background of pelvic endometriosis and a history of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) therapy. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed the masses to have high signal intensity on T2-weighted imaging. The location and bilaterality of the polypoid intraluminal masses are considered useful points in the differential diagnosis of fibroepithelial polyps. Similar content being viewed by others
