Abstract

Endometriosis is most common disease in the reproductive age group. The \naim of \nour study is to known \nprevalence of endometriosis among first \n- \n, second \n- \n, and third \n- \ndegree \nrelatives in a group of patients with varying symptoms related to endometriosis undergoing \ndiagnostic laparoscopy. \nWe analyzed the prevalence of endometriosis \namong first \n- \n, second \n- \n, and \nthird \n- \ndegree relatives in a group of patients with varying symptoms related to endometriosis \nunder \n- \ngoing diagnostic laparoscopy. \nMETHODS \n: \nEighty Six \nPatients with varying symptoms \nrelated to endometriosis undergoing laparoscopy w \nere enrolled. Patients were evaluated about \npresence of symptoms of endometriosis such as chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and dysmenorrhea \nin all first \n- \ndegree relatives (i.e., mother, sisters, and daughters), as well as in all second \n- \nand \nthird \n- \ndegree re \nlatives (aunts, cousins). \nRESULTS \n: \nMean age of the patient was 29.22±4.28 \nyears. The complaints of the patients were in the order of pelvic pain (86/86, 100%)> \ndysmenorrhea (76/86, 89%) \n>dyspareunia (51/86, 60%) \n>infertility (26/86, 30%). We found \nthat 30.24 \n% of 1st degree relatives, 10.47% of 2nd degree, 1.16% of 3rd degree and 2.33% of \ncombination of 1st and 2nd degree relatives having familial patterns. \nCONCLUSION \n: \nthere is a \ngood association of familial endometriosis and symptoms in first degree family me \nmbers than the \nother family relatives.
