Abstract

Endometriosis is classically defined by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma in regions remote from the uterine cavity. Evidence is increasing that different types of implants may represent different stages in the evolution of the disease and be associated with a different pathophysiology. The question has also been posed whether these types have different laparoscopic appearances. This chapter discusses the concept of endometriosis as a progressive disease, but self-limiting and therefore producing multiple appearances.
