This review compares endometriosis and cancer across risk factors, histological features, pathogenetic mechanisms, and the proposed role of stem cells, discussing criteria used to identify endometriosis-associated malignant tumors. It considers potential factors that drive malignant transformation of endometrial foci and frames similarities between the two conditions to motivate new perspectives on treatment and prevention. It further discusses the possibility of repurposing drugs that are under study for oncological diseases in light of these parallels, without providing a primary experimental dataset. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it compares endometriosis with cancer, including endometriosis-associated malignization and perspectives such as drug repositioning.

Endometriosis and cancer: a comparative characteristic and new perspectives of treatment and prevention L.V.Adamyan / Ya.B.Aznaurova / The review presents a comparative characteristic of endometriosis and cancer with respect to such parameters as risk factors, histological picture, pathogenetic aspects, the role of stem cells. The criteria of determining endometriosis-associated malignant tumours are described and potential factors of malignization of endometrial foci are considered. Taking into account the similarity of endometriosis and cancer, a possibility of repositioning the drugs that undergo studies for treatment of oncological diseases is also discussed. Key words: carcinoma, drug repositioning, stem cells, risk factors, endometriosis. For citation: Adamyan L.V., Aznaurova Ya.B.
