Abstract
20 patients with severe endometriosis who either had contraindications to operation or whose endometriosis recurred after operation were treated with Lynestrenol (LNL). In 8 cases the treatment failed after 6 weeks to 8 months and operation proved necessary. In 11 cases operative intervention has so far been unnecessary because of repeated LNL medication. The best results have been obtained in patients who have been treated for more than 2 years. Only 7 of the 20 patients had no bleeding complications. It is noted that if the symptoms either partly persist or recur in spite of LNL treatment for 9 to 12 months the patient and the doctor are more convinced that an operation is inevitable.
