Causes of ovarian reserve reduction in endometrioid ovarian cysts
Ovarian tissue adjacent to endometrioid cysts showed reduced radical-producing capability after NADH stimulation, suggesting antioxidant defense exhaustion contributes to ovarian reserve reduction.

This study examined whether local oxidative stress contributes to ovarian reserve reduction in patients with endometrioid ovarian cysts by comparing radical-producing activity in ovarian tissue adjacent to the cyst versus control tissue from patients with benign ovarian tumors or PCOS. Using chemiluminescence to assess active oxygen formation, the authors found no excessive radical anion production in either group without stimulation, but NADH stimulation significantly increased chemiluminescence intensity in controls. In contrast, tissue adjacent to endometrioid cysts showed a significantly lower radical-producing response to NADH, which the authors interpreted as possible exhaustion of antioxidant defenses, particularly involving cells associated with NADH-dependent cytochrome-b5 reductase. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it investigates oxidative stress mechanisms linked to ovarian reserve reduction in endometrioid ovarian cysts (endometrioma).
