To study the role of local oxidative stress in reduction of ovarian reserve in patients with endometrioid ovarian cysts. Patients and methods. The treatment group comprised 16 patients with endometrioid cysts, the control group – 16 patients with benign ovarian tumours or PCOS. Results. In the absence of a stimulus, an equal radical-producing activity of ovarian tissue was recorded, assessed with the help of chemiluminescence, in the treatment and control groups, which is indicative of the absence of excessive production of radical anions directly in ovarian stroma with an endometrioid cyst. Addition of NADH resulted in a significant increase of the intensity of chemiluminescence (14.05 ± 4.01 imp/s) in patients of the control group. In patients with endometrioid cysts, the radical-producing capability of tissue adjacent to the endometrioid cyst in response to the stimulus was significantly lower (1.71 ± 0.02 imp/s), which might be indicative that the cause of ovarian lesion in endometrioid cysts is exhaustion of antioxidant defence due to local oxidative stress. Conclusion. One of the causes of ovarian reserve reduction of patients with endometrioid cysts is exhaustion of antioxidant defence of cells associated with NADH-dependent cytochrome-b5 reductase.
