This retrospective study evaluated the appropriateness of hormonal and non-hormonal therapy prescriptions for 33 outpatients with endometriosis-related pain at a regional hospital in Tangerang between 2023 and 2025. The results indicated that non-hormonal treatments, particularly nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like mefenamic acid, dominated prescribing patterns at 75.76%, while hormonal therapies accounted for only 9.1% to 15.2%. Evaluation metrics showed high adherence to rational drug use principles, with perfect scores for patient selection, indication, and dosage accuracy, and a 93.93% accuracy rate for drug choice. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — specifically the evaluation of pharmacological management strategies for endometriosis-associated pain in an outpatient setting.

Abstract

Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease characterized by the growth of endometrium-like tissue outside the uterus, leading to dysmenorrhea, infertility, and reduced quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate the usage patterns and appropriateness of hormonal and nonhormonal therapies, specifically regarding the right patient, right drug, right dose, and right indication, among outpatient endometriosis patients at RSUD Kota Tangerang (Tangerang City Regional General Hospital). A retrospective descriptive design was applied in this study, using medical records from January 2023 to October 2025, involving 33 patients. Most patients were aged 35 44 years (51.51%), followed by 25–34 years (27.27%), 45–49 years (15.15%), and 18–24 years (6.06%). Nonhormonal therapy predominated (75.76%), while hormonal and combination therapies accounted for 9.1% and 15.2%, respectively. Analgesics/nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were the most frequently prescribed drug class (66%), followed by progestins (16%) and other medications (18%). Commonly prescribed drugs included mefenamic acid (42%), paracetamol (12%), tramadol (10%), ketorolac (2%), norethisterone (6%), progesterone (10%), ferrous fumarate (6%), folic acid (10%), and calcium carbonate (2%). The evaluation of drug utilization demonstrated 100% appropriateness for patient selection, indication, and dosage, whereas appropriate drug selection reached 93.93%. These findings indicate that nonhormonal therapy remains dominant and the majority of medication use was consistent with the principles of rational drug use.

Unduhan Referensi 1.
