The effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the inflammatory response in a mouse model of endometriosis: An experimental study
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy reduced peritoneal inflammation in endometriosis-induced mice by decreasing NFκB expression.

This experimental study used 24 female Swiss albino mice with endometriosis induced by intraperitoneal xenotransplantation of endometrial cells, then compared groups with no treatment, HBOT given for 10 days, or HBOT omitted, assessing peritoneal inflammation histopathologically and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) expression by immunohistochemistry. HBOT (100% O2, 2.4 atm, 3×30 min with a 5-min air break for 10 consecutive days) significantly lowered peritoneal inflammation scores in the HBOT group versus both pre-test and non-HBOT post-test groups, and NF-κB expression was highest in controls and reduced after HBOT; NF-κB expression also correlated positively with inflammation severity (Spearman r = 0.670). A key limitation is that the analysis used semiquantitative scoring and a small sample size (n=8 per group), which constrains precision of the measured inflammatory and NF-κB changes. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it tests how hyperbaric oxygen therapy alters peritoneal inflammation and NF-κB activity in a mouse model of endometriosis.
