This paper is a review discussing the role of biomarkers and related research approaches for early diagnosis of endometriosis, emphasizing that chronic symptoms often lead to substantial diagnostic delays and consequent psychological and physical harm. It surveys biomarker categories and diagnostic investigations, including prior literature on CA-125 performance, cervical mucus proteomics, microRNAs, antibodies, and imaging accuracy, while highlighting the continuing challenge that traditional methods have produced poor diagnostic results. As a review, it does not present new patient-level data and is limited by the heterogeneity of included studies and diagnostic modalities. Relevance to endometriosis: the paper’s sole topic is the role of biomarkers in the early diagnosis of endometriosis, focusing specifically on biomarker-based strategies to address diagnostic delay.
