Analysis of DNA methylation and its correlation with mRNA expression of epidermal growth factor receptor encoding for cytoskeleton regulating protein in peritoneal endometriosis tissue
This study analyzed EGFR gene DNA methylation and mRNA expression in endometriosis tissue, finding increased EGFR mRNA expression unrelated to DNA methylation alterations.

This study investigated the relationship between DNA methylation and mRNA expression of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene in peritoneal endometriosis tissue. Researchers analyzed samples from 20 patients with peritoneal endometriosis and 20 non-endometriosis controls using Methylation Specific PCR and qRT-PCR to assess genetic modifications and transcript levels. The results showed significantly increased DNA methylation and elevated EGFR mRNA expression in endometriosis tissues compared to normal endometrium, yet no significant correlation existed between these two variables. The authors concluded that the upregulation of EGFR mRNA in endometriosis is not driven by changes in DNA methylation, suggesting other mechanisms contribute to its pathogenesis. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — specifically examining molecular pathways involved in peritoneal lesions.
