Angiogenese und m-RNA-Expression der Matrix Metalloproteinasen (MMP) 1 und 2 im ektopen Endometrium auf der Chorioallantoismembran (CAM)
This study investigated angiogenesis and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) 1 and 2 mRNA expression in ectopic endometrium on the chick embryo's chorioallantois membrane (CAM) model.

The study investigated how matrix metalloproteinases MMP1 and MMP2 contribute to angiogenesis during ectopic endometrial implantation using a chicken embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model. Endometrium from 14 patients with and without endometriosis was transplanted onto the CAM and explants were analyzed over time (0, 24, 48, 72, 96 hours) for angiogenic activity via a vessel density index and for MMP1/2 mRNA expression using competitive RT-PCR. They found a significant increase in vessel density beginning at 72 hours, alongside time-dependent rises in MMP1 mRNA in both groups (2–4-fold), and a more pronounced increase in MMP2 mRNA in endometriosis samples (over 30-fold) with controls reaching ~4-fold by 96 hours; the paper’s limitation is the small sample size per time point (3 samples). This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it uses an endometriosis CAM model to show ectopic endometrial MMP1/2 mRNA upregulation associated with angiogenesis.
