Immunohistochemical study of HLA-DR antigen in endometrial tissue of patients with endometriosis
This study found significantly increased HLA-DR antigen expression in glandular cells of both eutopic and ectopic endometrial tissue from endometriosis patients compared to controls.

This immunohistochemical study assessed expression of HLA-DR antigen in glandular cells in eutopic and ectopic endometrium from 19 infertile patients with endometriosis, using the labelled streptavidin biotin (LSAB) method, with 19 infertile patients without endometriosis as controls. The authors found significantly increased HLA-DR antigen expression in glandular cells in both eutopic and ectopic endometrium in the endometriosis group compared with controls (P<0.01). A key caveat is that the sample size is small and the work is descriptive, focusing on antigen expression without demonstrating mechanism or causal immunogenicity.
