Abstract

Although Fabricus Heldanus in 1598 first described an unusual ileal diverticulum, the first description of its embryology and morphology which now bears his name was made in 1809 by Johann Frederich Meckel. The Meckel's diverticulum is a developmental remnant of the omphalomesenteric duct and the majority were found incidentally during laparotomy or autopsy. In reviewing the complications of Meckel's diverticulum, its association with regional enteritis seems sufficiently rare to merit a report. Endometriosis of Meckel's diverticulum, to my knowledge, has never been described in the literature. This paper deals with this unusual case report and brief review of our experiences with Meckel's diverticulum both from autopsy and clinical material.
