Abstract

Pelvic pain is a common presentation in primary care. Although studies are lacking, estimates are that 1 in 7 women has acute or chronic pelvic pain in their lifetime. Causes of acute pelvic pain include reproductive, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and musculoskeletal etiologies [1]. Various definitions for acute pelvic pain exist, but most agree chronic pelvic pain is present for at least 6 months [2].
