The effect of pregnancy on endometriosis in baboons (Papio anubis, Papio cynocephalus) *
This study examined endometriosis in 11 baboons, finding no significant change in lesion characteristics or severity during the first or second trimester of pregnancy compared to their nonpregnant state.

This study tested the hypothesis that endometriosis regresses during pregnancy by examining 11 baboons with histologically proven endometriosis using paired laparoscopies before pregnancy and during the first (n=6) or second trimester (n=5), with a 5±3 month interval. During each laparoscopy, the investigators recorded number, size, and type of endometriotic implants on a pelvic map and calculated endometriosis score and stage using the revised American Fertility Society (AFS) classification, comparing pregnant versus nonpregnant states with Wilcoxon signed rank tests. They found no significant change in AFS score or stage, nor in the number, size, or type of lesions across gestation. This paper is centrally about endometriosis—specifically, it evaluates whether pregnancy induces regression of endometriosis in baboons.
