Operative laparoscopy is the primary surgical approach for endometriosis, with robotic assistance offering potential benefits like 3D visualization and improved suturing, though its clinical value requires further evaluation.

Abstract

With the development of endoscopic technologies, we are able to detect and treat endometriosis with minimally invasive techniques. Indeed, operative laparoscopy is considered the most appropriate surgical approach to all stages of endometriosis. The new development in endoscopic surgery is the use of robotic assistance where one can evaluate the endometriosis in three dimensions. Robotic surgery facilitates laparoscopic suturing. However, its clinical value awaits more experience and randomized trials to determine its efficacy in the outcome of endometriosis treatment.
