Abstract

Endometriosis is a benign gynaecological disease characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity, primarily on the pelvic peritoneum and ovaries. The most common clinical features of endometriosis are dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, and infertility. However, the clinical symptoms do not always correlate with the extent of the disease, and for this reason, the diagnosis of the disease is often delayed between 7 and 10 years. This work was performed under the auspices of the Càtedra d’Investigació en Obstetrícia i Ginecologia of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine, Hospital Universitari Dexeus, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
