Aberrant Overexpression of RNA-Editing Enzyme ADAR1 Promotes the Progression of Endometriosis
ADAR1 mRNA and protein were significantly increased in the endometrium of women with endometriosis and promoted cell viability, proliferation, and invasion.

This study investigated whether the RNA-editing enzyme ADAR1 is dysregulated in endometriosis and whether ADAR1 affects endometrial cell behavior. Eutopic endometrium from women with endometriosis (n=25) and without (n=25) was analyzed for ADAR1 mRNA (RT-qPCR) and ADAR1 protein (Western blot and immunohistochemistry), and eutopic endometriosis cells were tested for changes in viability, proliferation, and invasion after assessing ADAR1 effects using CCK-8/EdU and transwell assays. ADAR1 mRNA and protein levels were significantly higher in eutopic endometrium from women with endometriosis, and ADAR1 promoted cell viability, proliferation, and invasion (P<0.05). A key limitation stated by the paper’s framing is that the mechanistic focus is narrowed to ADAR1 without establishing the upstream causes of its altered expression or detailing in vivo lesion outcomes. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it shows ADAR1 overexpression in eutopic endometrium and links ADAR1 to progression-relevant cellular phenotypes in endometriosis.
