My Catastrophizing and Your Catastrophizing: Dyadic Associations of Pain Catastrophizing and the Physical, Psychological, and Relational Well-being of Persons With Endometriosis and Their Partners
This study found that higher pain catastrophizing in individuals with endometriosis and their partners was associated with increased pain intensity, lower sexual satisfaction, and more negative partner responses to pain.

This study examined the dyadic associations between pain catastrophizing and well-being in 52 couples where one partner has endometriosis. Using self-report measures and Actor-Partner Interdependence Model analysis, researchers found that higher catastrophizing in persons with endometriosis correlated with increased sexual pain, lower sexual satisfaction, and more negative partner responses. Similarly, partners who exhibited higher levels of catastrophizing experienced greater depressive symptoms and also reported responding negatively to their partner's pain. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — specifically focusing on the psychological and relational impacts of pain catastrophizing within romantic partnerships affected by the condition.
