This chapter describes the experiences of adolescents who underwent laparoscopy for pelvic pain and received a diagnosis of endometriosis, focusing on their symptoms, the time from symptom onset to correct diagnosis, the number and types of professionals they saw, subsequent diagnosis and treatments, and postoperative outcomes. The key finding emphasized is that although symptoms often begin in adolescence, diagnosis is frequently delayed, contributing to a prolonged diagnostic journey before surgical confirmation. A major limitation is that the chapter is descriptive and, as presented in the excerpt, does not provide quantified effect sizes or a controlled comparison group. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it focuses on adolescent patients’ symptom patterns, diagnostic delay, and outcomes after laparoscopy-confirmed diagnosis of endometriosis.
