Expression and possible role of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug-activated gene-1 (NAG-1) in the human endometrium and endometriosis
This study evaluated expression and potential function of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug–activated gene-1 (NAG-1) in human endometrium and compared levels between 40 patients with endometriosis and 40 without using real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry, alongside menstrual cycle staging. NAG-1 mRNA and protein showed cyclical increases during late secretory and menstrual phases, but both were significantly lower in endometriosis patients than controls. In cultured human endometrial stromal cells, the COX-2 inhibitor celecoxib increased NAG-1 mRNA and induced apoptosis in a concentration- and time-dependent manner, while having no effect on prostaglandin E2 levels in culture supernatants. This paper centrally about endometriosis — it reports altered NAG-1 expression in endometriotic versus non-endometriotic endometrium and tests celecoxib effects on NAG-1 and apoptosis in endometrial stromal cells.
