Abstract

A prospective randomized study was undertaken comparing the effectiveness of danazol with Enavid treatment of endometriosis. 5 patients were treated with Enavid (5 mg twice daily) and 11 with danazol (100 mg twice daily) the doses increased progressively until the patient was amenorrheic. Maximum doses of danazol were 800 mg and maximum of Enavid 40 mg. 3 Enavid patients discontinued treatment before 6 months due to breathlessness depression breast swelling hypertension weight gain and signs of thrombophelebitis. The other 2 patients also went through much discomfort of similar nature. 8 of the danazol patients showed improvement in physical signs 3 dramatically. Danazol was concluded to be effective in mild or moderate cases and is less troublesome than Enavid making course completion more likely.
