This descriptive study examined the sociodemographic profile, gynecologic organic findings, and associations with anxiety and depression in 30 women with chronic pelvic pain in Cali, Colombia, who were scheduled for diagnostic laparoscopy. All participants had pelvic pathology on laparoscopy, with the most frequent findings being dense adhesions (26.6%), adenomyosis (20%), and lower proportions of endometriosis (10%) and polycystic ovary (10%), including multiple combined pathologies in 43.4%; dense intestinal and lateral wall adhesions were reported in 30%. Using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, anxiety was present at a higher rate (30%) than depression (3.3%), and the authors note that the pattern of findings differed from previously reported studies in other populations. This paper is centrally about endometriosis and adenomyosis — it quantifies laparoscopic detection rates of both conditions (adenomyosis 20% and endometriosis 10%) among women with chronic pelvic pain.
