Abstract

Endometriosis is a complex disease whose etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment are still being investigated [7]. It may be associated with dysmenorrhea and dyspareunia and is often a cause of infertility. Clinical management of the disease varies according to the patient’s child-bearing desire and is controversial. It may consist of medical therapy with a variety of hormones, all designed to suppress the disease by decreasing size, quantity and vascularization. Subsequent or alternative surgical therapy aims at removal of the endometrial implants and repair of anatomic pathology. Often, combined treatment schemes are applied.
