Effect of IL-Iβ and TNF-α on the expression of monocyte chemotactic protein-1 in endometriotic cells

This study examined how the pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) affect monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) expression in endometriotic cells cultured in vitro. Endometriotic tissue was obtained from 15 patients with endometriosis, and MCP-1 mRNA and MCP-1 protein levels were measured by dot blot analysis and ELISA after cytokine exposure, compared with untreated controls. IL-1β and TNF-α significantly increased MCP-1 mRNA and protein expression relative to control, indicating cytokine-driven upregulation of MCP-1 in endometriotic cells, though the study does not describe replicates, variability details beyond reported means, or functional downstream consequences.
