Abstract

This chapter deals with the role of HBO in obstetrics and gynecology. The applications are very limited in the USA and Western Europe, and most of the work has been done in Russia. HBO has been used for threatened abortion, fetal hypoxia, toxemias of pregnancy, and diabetes in pregnant women. The use of HBO during pregnancy has been shown to be safe. HBO can be used for medical disorders during pregnancy such as diabetes and carbon monoxide poisoning. Applications in gynecology are somewhat limited. Animal experimental studies show the potential application of HBO in treatment of endometriosis. Clinical studies indicate its usefulness as an adjunct in the management of infertility.
