Establishment and Histological Observation of an ER-β Knockout Mouse Model of Endometriosis

Objective To set up an experimental endometriosis model using ER-β knockout mice,and to investigate the role of ER-β in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.Methods Autotransplantation of uterine tissue to ectopic sites in the abdominal wall was conducted by surgery in 16 ER-β knockout mice.The mice were sacrificed 2 weeks and 3 weeks after the operation respectively,and samples were taken for light microscopic examination.Results 95.8% of the tissues revealed endometrial glands and stroma with fluid in the cysts.Conclusion This animal model of endometriosis could be used to study the role of ER-β and related genes and proteins in the development of endometriosis.
