This paper reports an audit of 509 laparoscopic examinations performed in Pakistani women from 1987–1991, including 147 procedures for gynecologic pelvic pain and 313 for infertility. Across acute pelvic pain cases, the most frequent findings were ectopic pregnancy (27%), twisted ovarian cyst (18%), and acute pelvic inflammatory disease (14%), while chronic pelvic pain cases most often showed endometriosis (17%) and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease (16%). In infertility evaluations, common findings included adhesions (20%), tubal block (15%), endometriosis (9%), and polycystic ovaries (7%). This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it reports the frequency of endometriosis among laparoscopic findings for both chronic pelvic pain and infertility in Pakistani women.
