Soluble serum interleukin-2 receptor, interleukin-6 and interleukin-1a in patients with endometriosis and in controls
Soluble serum IL-2R, IL-6, and IL-1a levels were higher in women with endometriosis before danazol treatment but significantly reduced after treatment.

The study measured serum soluble interleukin-2 receptor (SIL-2R), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1a) in 10 infertile patients with endometriosis and 10 normal controls, and then assessed changes in the endometriosis group in response to a 6-month course of danazol (with serial blood sampling). Baseline levels of SIL-2R, IL-6, and IL-1a were higher in women with endometriosis than in controls. Danazol significantly reduced all three cytokine-related markers during treatment, and the paper interprets this as evidence of endometriosis-associated immune abnormalities that are modifiable by the drug. A major limitation is the small sample size and the fact that only one blood sample was taken from controls, which limits comparability and temporal inference. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it quantifies serum SIL-2R, IL-6, and IL-1a and tests how danazol alters these immunologic markers in endometriosis versus controls.
