The study evaluated whether curcumin modulates ovarian folliculogenesis-related factors when bovine cumulus oocyte complexes (COCs) are cultured in the presence of peritoneal fluid (PF) from infertile women with endometriosis. Using a three-group culture design (TCM199 alone, TCM199 plus endometriosis PF, and TCM199 plus endometriosis PF with curcumin), the authors assessed GDF-9, Kit ligand (KitL), and TNF-α expression by immunohistochemistry. Curcumin increased GDF-9 and KitL expression compared with culture with endometriosis PF without curcumin, and it also produced a significant difference in TNF-α expression across groups, consistent with reduced inflammatory signaling; however, the measured GDF-9 increase with curcumin did not match the control condition, indicating incomplete normalization.
