Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Endometriosis – A mysterious and fascinating disease that roughly affects 10% of women of reproductive age worldwide. It is defined as the presence of functioning uterine glands and stroma in any site outside the uterus. Ayurveda perceives endometriosis not as a local gynaecological condition but as a systemic disorder. This broader lens allows us to address not just the lesion, but the terrain in which the disease thrives. This case series presents the clinical staging of endometriosis based on Shad Kriya Kala and helps in under-standing the detailed effects of the Ayurveda treatment protocol in patients with endometriosis. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Formulating an efficient treatment protocol that provides symptomatic relief, pre-vents disease progression, and helps in reversing the complex pathology through immunomodulation via a case series. METHODOLOGY: This case series includes 10 patients who attended the Outpatient Department (OPD) of Prasuti Tantra and Stree Roga, Sri Sri College of Ayurvedic Science and Research Hospital, Bengaluru, and were diagnosed with endometriosis clinically and by ultrasonographic evaluation. Subjects were given two con-secutive sessions of the Ayurveda Panchakarma line of treatment, orally and externally, and a thorough pre- and post-assessment was conducted to evaluate the effect of those therapies on the presenting complaints. RESULTS: Following treatment, patients gradually observed a significant reduction in their presenting symp-toms. The employed treatment protocol and regular follow-up also helped prevent symptom recurrence and, hence, improved the quality of life.
