Clinical investigation on the effect of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system on adenomyosis

Abstract
Objective:To explore the clinical efficacy of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) in the treatment of adenomyosis.Methods:94 cases with adenomyosis were treated with LNG-IUS,and the menstrual blood volume,degree of dysmenorrheal,hemoglobin level and uterine volume were observed.Results:After one month,3 months and 12 months,the menstrual blood volume reduced to (32±11) %,(24±8)% and (6±3) % of those before treatment,respectively,there was significant difference in menstrual blood volume before and after the treatment (P0.01);there was no significant difference in uterine volume before and after the treatment (P0.05);dysmenorrheal relieved obviously or completely;hemoglobin level recovered from (89±12) g/L to (126±10) g/L in 37 patients with anemia.Conclusion:LNG-IUS is an effective method in the treatment of adenomyosis.
