Abstract
Objective:To study the role of aromatase cytochrome P450 in the pathogenesis of endometriosis and to evaluate its clinical value as a diagnostic method for endometriosis. Methods: The expression of aromatase cytochrome P540 in normal endometrium, eutopic and ectopic endometrium of endometriosis was detected by immunohistochemical analysis. Results: Aromatase cytochrome P450 was strongly expressed in eutopic and ectopic endometrium of endometriosis except normal endometrium. There was no difference between proliferative and secretory endometrium of endometriosis. As a diagnostic test for endometriosis by measuring aromatase cytochrome P450 in biopsy endometrium of endometriosis, the sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value were 91.5%,100% and 100%.No correlation was observed between the expression of aromatase cytochrome P450 and AFS stage of endometriosis. Conclusions: It is suggested that the increasd expression of aromatase cytochrome P450 in local eutopic and ectopic endometrium may be important in pathogenesis of endometriosis Further more,it can be used as a diagnostic test for endometriosis.
