Abstract
The total number of patients with severe forms of endometriosis treated in our department for the past 18 years is 1904. The treatment included surgery by laparotomy, laparoscopy and/or vaginal access, followed by hormonal therapy with danazol, gestrinone, nafarelin or decapeptyl-depot. Serum levels of gonadotropins and sex steroids were estimated in the course of treatment in order to control the adequacy of dose of the hormonal preparations. In some cases, especially if radical elimination of endometriotic lesions was impossible, we reformed second-look laparoscopy to evaluate the efficacy of our treatment. A comparative analysis of the dynamics of cancer antigens (CA-125, CA 19-9, CEA) was carried out during the course of treatment and after it. High levels of the markers without any clinical manifestations of disease were indications for second-look laparoscopy, which confirmed recurrence.
