Abstract

Aim: Endometriosis is a benign, chronic inflammatory diseasethat often involves the presence and enlargement of endometrialglands and stroma outside of the uterus. Endometriosis foci areoften seen in the abdominal cavity, in the ovaries, Phallopiantubes, ligament structures, on the outer surface of the uterusand the inner surface of the pelvis. The most common symptomsare chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, and infertility. In ourstudy, we aimed to determine the localization of endometriosis,accompanying symptoms and other accompanying lesions dueto the prevalence of endometriosis and its involvement in manydifferent regions.Material and Method: 330 cases diagnosed with endometriosisin the Department of Pathology between 2010 and 2020 werescanned through the hospital information system. The patientsdiagnosed with endometriosis were analyzed retrospectively interms of age, complaints, endometriosis location, accompanyingmalignant and benign lesions and frozen examination.Results: There were 330 patients diagnosed with endometriosis.The average age of the patients was 45 (SS 11,23), and it wasobserved that the latest patient was 11 years old and the oldestpatient was 87 years old. Although the pathogenesis of endometriosishas not been clearly explained, retrograde menstruation theoryis accepted today. It is a disease that can be easily treated withmedical or surgical treatments. It has been reported that especiallyendometrioid adenocarcinoma and clear cell carcinoma areassociated with endometriosis in patients with ovarian cancer.
