Endometriosis foci are\noften seen in the abdominal cavity, in the ovaries, Phallopian\ntubes, ligament structures, on the outer surface of the uterus\nand the inner surface of the pelvis. The most common symptoms\nare chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, and infertility. In our\nstudy, we aimed to determine the localization of endometriosis,\naccompanying symptoms and other accompanying lesions due\nto the prevalence of endometriosis and its involvement in many\ndifferent regions.\nMaterial and Method: 330 cases diagnosed with endometriosis\nin the Department of Pathology between 2010 and 2020 were\nscanned through the hospital information system. The patients\ndiagnosed with endometriosis were analyzed retrospectively in\nterms of age, complaints, endometriosis location, accompanying\nmalignant and benign lesions and frozen examination.\nResults: There were 330 patients diagnosed with endometriosis.\nThe average age of the patients was 45 (SS 11,23), and it was\nobserved that the latest patient was 11 years old and the oldest\npatient was 87 years old. It was observed that the patients applied\nto the gynecology and obstetrics clinic with complaints of pelvic\nmass (79%), abnormal uterine bleeding (19%) and pelvic pain\n(2%). It was observed that the most frequently affected area was\nthe right (32,4%) and the left ovary (33%). In addition, bilateral\novarian involvement was observed in 46(13,9%) patients and\nabdominal skin involvement in 29(8,8%) patients (Table 1). Frozen\nexamination was performed on 87(26,3%) patients and 70(80%)\npatients were diagnosed as benign and 17(20%) patients were\ndiagnosed as malignant.\nConclusion: Endometriosis is an important disease due to its\nwidespread prevalence in the society, significantly decreasing the\nquality of life of the person and causing a suspicion of malignancy\nby forming a mass. Although the pathogenesis of endometriosis\nhas not been clearly explained, retrograde menstruation theory\nis accepted today. It is a disease that can be easily treated with\nmedical or surgical treatments. It has been reported that especially\nendometrioid adenocarcinoma and clear cell carcinoma are\nassociated with endometriosis in patients with ovarian cancer.\nFiles\n4 237 Endometriozis.pdf\nFiles\n(809.1 kB)\n| Name | Size | Download all |\n|---|---|---|\n|\nmd5:68ea0ed956b53ba7399e878f286c7554\n|\n809.1 kB | Preview Download |\nAdditional details\nSoftware\n- Repository URL\n- https://chronpmr.com/index.php/cpmr/article/view/237","source_license":"CC0","license_restricted":false}
