This 2006 paper is a case report describing a 49-year-old postmenopausal woman with abdominal pain and a pelvic mass who underwent extensive surgical staging, including total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, omentectomy, appendectomy, and pelvic lymph node dissection. Histopathology showed synchronous primary cancers of the endometrium and the right ovary, and the patient then received postoperative chemotherapy. The authors report that 39 months after surgery, she remained well with no evidence of recurrence, with the limitation that the evidence is based on a single patient experience. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it is focused on synchronous endometrial and ovarian cancers, which are gynecologic conditions that are often studied alongside endometriosis in broader pelvic pathology contexts.
