18 Morbidity associated with cancellation of “elective” surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic: A case of deeply infiltrative endometriosis with colorectal involvement.

This case report describes a patient with deeply infiltrative endometriosis involving the colorectum who required emergent surgical intervention after scheduled elective surgery was cancelled during the COVID-19 pandemic. The medical team performed a robotic-assisted laparoscopic excision of endometriosis, low anterior resection with primary re-anastomosis, and trans-rectal bowel extraction following failed medical management. The authors highlight that emergent surgical management may be necessary for this condition despite efforts to control it medically, noting that not all endometriosis procedures should be classified as elective.
