HISTOPATHOLOGICAL STUDY OF BENIGN AND MALIGNANT LESIONS OF UTERUS AND CERVIX IN HYSTERECTOMY SPECIMENS
This observational study examined 100 hysterectomy specimens, finding excessive uterine bleeding and fibroids to be the most common indications, while chronic cervicitis was the most frequent cervical finding.

This observational histopathology study analyzed 100 hysterectomy specimens from Index Medical College Hospital and Research Center to describe the age-wise distribution and the spectrum of benign and malignant lesions of the uterus and cervix, using detailed gross and microscopic examination. The mean patient age was 44.78±8.64 years, with the 41–50 age group the largest, and hysterectomy indications most commonly involved AUB/DUB/menorrhagia (31%), followed by fibroid uterus (28%). Leiomyoma was the most common uterine histopathological diagnosis (39%), while chronic nonspecific cervicitis was the most common cervical finding (47%); intramural leiomyomas with degenerative changes were reported in 33 cases. The authors explicitly note that adenomyosis was missed preoperatively and only diagnosed postoperatively on histopathological examination. This paper is centrally about adenomyosis in the sense that it reports adenomyosis being missed preoperatively and detected postoperatively on hysterectomy histopathology, while the study’s main focus is the overall histopathological spectrum of uterine and cervical lesions.
