Abstract

ABSTRACT Endometriosis is an increasingly recognised health condition associated with significant diagnostic delay and ongoing morbidity. Ultrasound plays a central role in early assessment and surgical planning. However, comprehensive endometriosis imaging requires advanced technical expertise that extends beyond routine pelvic examination. Across Australasia, variability in training, experience, and access to mentorship contributes to inconsistent practice, particularly outside specialist centres. Although many sonographers are formally qualified to perform gynaecological ultrasound, relatively few have dedicated subspecialisation in advanced endometriosis assessment. This commentary explores whether a formal certification framework for endometriosis ultrasound may help address these gaps.
