Differential Gene Expression in Menstrual Endometrium From Women With Self-Reported Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

Compared with controls, women reporting HMB showed gene expression patterns in which significant canonical pathways and functional clusters enriched in controls suggested that HMB-associated mechanisms involve modifications of the endometrial inflammatory or infection response, while uterine fibroid–associated HMB showed differentially expressed genes related to hemoglobin, antigen processing, and major histocompatibility complex class II beta chain activity. A major limitation is the small sample size per group (HMB n=7, controls n=10, fibroids n=7, with only n=4 having HMB) and reliance on self-reported HMB status.
