Abstract

The propagation of the contractile waves of the human Fallopian tube was investigated in seven women throughout the menstrual cycle. Both peristalsis and antiperistalsis were recorded during the proliferative and luteal phases of the cycle. During menstruation strong peristalsis associated with outbursts of increased activity was also recorded, but antiperistalsis was not detected. The speed of wave propagation was slowest during the luteal phase and fastest during menstruation.
